11 Aug First Speakers’ Corner
DATE: August 11th, 2018. LOCATION: Karachi.
HPSAA organized its first Speakers’ Corner Event on 11th August 2018. Mr. Navaid Akhter Qureshi, Habibian Alumni batch of 1970 was the guest speaker. The topic of discussion was “The Role Of Cities In Economic Development And The Case For Sub-National Finance”. Mr. Qureshi is based in Washington D.C. and is the Chief Industry Specialist for Global Infrastructure at IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. He has been working on urban and infrastructure investments in various countries across Eastern and Southern Europe, Latin America and Caribbean, South and East Asia, Middle East and North Africa, Sub Saharan Africa, as well as in the US for the past 40 + years. His main focus in the discussion was the city of Karachi. He pointed out the impediments in the growth of Karachi and compared it with other cities of the world and suggested the measures that should be taken to transform Karachi.
